PRESS RELEASE
Burying people is hard, even harder when they’re still breathing.
People We Bury Alive. 1-24th August 2025 at 18:25. Playground 3 at ZOO VENUES Playground, High School Yards, EH1 1LZ Edinburgh. Tickets available at https://www.edfringe.com/tickets/whats-on/people-we-bury-alive
People We Bury Alive is the fourth production by the award-nominated Passing Stranger Theatre Company, created with the support of the Keep it Fringe 2025 funding.
Rita, a Polish immigrant and mortuary worker, runs a support group for people who have been buried alive. But can she practice what she preaches? Because the thing is, she just buried her ex alive. A dark comedy with slam poetry; exploring immigration, grief and lost connections.
Written and performed by Anna Krauze. Directed by Coral Tarran.
Trigger warning: death, grief, strong language, sexual content
Reviews of previous work:
Our projects were supported using public funding by the Arts Council England: we have been awarded the Arts Council National Lottery Project Grant 2021. Daddy Issues received a Standing Ovation nomination for London Pub Theatre Awards 2021. Daddy Issues was longlisted for the Popcorn Writing Award 2022 by the BBC Writersroom and the Popcorn Group during the run at the Pleasance Courtyard / Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2022.
“Dark, funny, compelling script. Highly recommend it.”
Simon Nelson, BBC Writersroom
"A powerfully written and a thoroughly engaging play.”
UK Theatre Web ★★★★★
“It is a bold and courageous bit of storytelling from a charismatic and gifted actor.”
Channel 4
“Anna Krauze is a brave and magnetic performer. Sterling writing”.
Bec Martin, Artistic Director, New Diorama Theatre
"Daddy Issues is a deliciously provocative debate. Probing the realities of sex work, its tension with feminism & intellectualised misogyny, this tongue-in-cheek narrative needles, contradicts and exposes hard truths.”
Fringe Biscuit ★★★★
“The play is driven entirely by Nat, a young Polish immigrant and a phenomenal storyteller. Definitely has the potential to be a show talked about for years to come.”
Theatre 503
“Krauze is a confident and accomplished performer, the play is an excellent vehicle for her versatility.”
Bryan J Mason, StageTalk Magazine ★★★★
"Daddy Issues packs a punch within the short hour-long play, discussing and putting a microscopic lens on some provoking and taboo themes and societal issues. The writing of this production is beautiful and very relevant.”
Theatre Scotland ★★★★
“Excellent handling of sensitive subjects, particularly exploitation. Brave and complex dark comedy.”
London Pub Theatres (Standing Ovation Nomination 2021) ★★★★
“Krauze has written a very deep and complicated character. It left me satisfied and wanting more.”
London Theatre 1 ★★★★
“Daddy Issues develops into a fascinating character study. The writer and star Anna Krauze is a great storyteller and gives a fantastic performance as she portrays this quirky character.”
Andrew Melrose, Three Weeks Edinburgh ★★★★
“Krauze’s script is witty, comical and, most importantly, it’s real. There are some genius moments in this one woman show and such a contemporary commentary on female sexual pleasure.”
Everything Theatre
“Daddy Issues is daring, unapologetic and original. Krauze’s unfiltered honesty opens up a world that often remains hidden and has a compelling stage presence.”

Notes to Editors:
Passing Stranger Theatre Company was formed in 2018. We are focused on creating bold, thought provoking shows that leave our audiences questioning their views and opinions. Our first production, a translation of a Polish, Shakespeare-like play called Balladina by Juliusz Słowacki was supported by the Polish Cultural Institute and the Polish Radio. It was the UK premiere of this classical play. Passing Stranger’s second production, Daddy Issues, was supported using public funding by the Arts Council England: we have been awarded the Arts Council National Lottery Project Grant 2021. After premiering Daddy Issues at the Camden Fringe Festival 2021 we had two national tours (Autumn 2021, Spring 2022), visiting theatres in Bristol, Kingston, Brighton, Glasgow, Nottingham and Guildford. We performed Daddy Issues as part of the Omnibus Theatre’s Summer Season of Edinburgh Previous (July 2022) before performing at the Pleasance Courtyard 3-29th August at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2022. Our third play, We Can Be Heroes, received critical acclaim during Camden Fringe Festival 2024. People We Bury Alive is a recipient of the EdFringe Keep It Fringe 2025 funding.
